All about us

The gair rhydd is Cardiff’s student newspaper. Published weekly during term time it is widely acknowledged as the first stop for all students on their way to Monday morning lectures in order to find out what’s new and different here in Cardiff.

Compiled by students for students the gair rhydd covers the issues that effect students in Cardiff and across the UK and includes sections on the latest news, sport, features, politics, interviews, health, science & environment as well as the countries premier student Welsh language section, Taf Od.

On top of all this, the gair rhydd also provides a platform for students to have their say through the lively and often hotly contested letters page. There is also a chance to send the gair rhydd SMS messages as well as MMS pictures for the Hall of Shame on: 07813 753 762

When translated gair rhydd means Free Word, it is this independence and the high levels of journalistic ability which sets this award winning (NUS/Daily Mirror Student newspaper of the year 04/05, Guardian Student Newspaper of the year 05/06) student paper apart from its peers across the rest of the UK.

The gair rhydd maintains its position at number one thanks to the high levels of dedication shown by all its section editors and contributors who strive to bring Cardiff students the best paper possible week in week out.

To reflect this there are always opportunities for all students to write for the gair rhydd, whatever your interest there is always room for another writer up here on the fourth floor.

Drop in and see us for a chat next time your around the Students Union, we’re up on the fourth floor and always have a pot of coffee on the go, you never know where your curiosity could lead.
