CARDIFF ALMOST pulled off a victory against a struggling Exeter attack but fell to defeat by three wickets.

Cardiff were late arriving in Exeter for their final BUCS game of the season due to the game being switched from Llanrumney at the eleventh hour, and as a result discovered that Exeter had claimed the toss and had decided to bowl first.

STUDENT RIDERS from across the UK travel to compete in the annual Mountain Bike BUCS – a one-off championship race for downhill, cross country and 4x.

This year the event visited the somewhat unlikely venue of the UK Bike Park in Dorset. Some feared it would not live up to the standards set by Wales and Scotland in previous years, but it was well-organised and competitive event.

Oar Inspiring


AFTER BUCS Head Race was cancelled due to flooding, Cardiff University Rowing Club trained extra hard for the three-day BUCS Regatta as it was the only BUCS event to be held this year.

Last weekend, 38 CURC rowers and coxes descended on the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham for the eagerly awaited three-day BUCS Championship Regatta. After four wins at Nottingham City Regatta the week before, Cardiff were favourites in several events.

On the bounce


The Cardiff Trampoline Squad took to the beds for the final time this year at the Southampton Open.

The squad scooped several individual medals with the novice and intermediate team finishing third overall out of seventeen universities from across England and Wales.

Not so Bright


OVERNIGHT RAIN put the first BUCS game in doubt for Cardiff University CC 1st XI, but after some much-needed persuasion from both captains, common sense prevailed and the umpires declared a 20/20 match.

As is becoming expected of Cardiff, they again started strongly having been stuck in to bat, with Josh Bess (6) hitting a huge six in the first over but then falling in the next.

Riding a wave of success


NATIONAL WINDSURFING week finished Cardiff University’s triumphant season in the BUCS and SWA nationals.

The club sent 20 of its strongest competitors in all three divisions to compete over three days of competition in Calshot, Southampton.

Flying high


CARDIFF UNIVERSITY Trampoline Squad became international champions when they competed for the first time overseas in the Irish Student Trampoline Open (ISTO).

Over 400 students from 37 universities across Great Britain and Ireland assembled in Dublin to compete for the shield. The day saw numerous successes for the Cardiff squad, with medals won across the team.

Kings of the rink


CARDIFF ENTERED this year’s Tier III national championships with high hopes of regaining the title they won two years ago, even though only two of those players still remain on the team.

They got off to a perfect start beating the Edinburgh Beagle’s 2-0. The Redhawks then beat Northumbria C, Manchester and Newcastle White to secure a semi-final spot before the final group game against reigning champions Nottingham C.

Sharp shooter


JAMES LOTHIAN, a second year student at Cardiff reading Biomedical Science with Anatomy, spent the Easter break in South Africa as a member of the senior England Full-Bore Rifle Team.

Full-bore rifle shooting, an outdoor sport, is a shooting discipline in which the shooter is firing at paper targets over distances between 300 and 1000 yards.
