THE LAST matches before the Easter Break included the final of the lower league cup and included an impressive KLAW side taking on surprise finalists FC EUROS.
MOMED 3 – 1 AFC History
MOMED AND History took to the field on Wednesday in a bid to be crowned champions of the IMG Premiership tournament.
THE IMG football season finished in the last week of the Easter term, culminating in MOMED AFC being crowned champions for the first time. It’s fair to say that it has been a season full of highs and lows for all of the IMG players.
However the commitment and drive from them all did not diminish, even when at one point no competitive games had been played for almost a month.
AFTER A frustrating year for the IMG teams, in which a total of 48 Pontcanna-scheduled games have been cancelled, gair rhydd has learned that the playing fields will remain out of use until the end of next season.
In an email from the current Athletic Union president Scott Pigott, it was revealed that following a recent meeting with the Council they indicated that the Pontcanna fields “will not be available for any use during the 09/10 football season.”
ELSEWHERE IN the IMG Rugby tournament Engin battled to a well-earned win over Law in the third/fourth place playoff whilst Bio Science grounded out a ferocious win in a close fought encounter with SAWSA.
The league has been a huge success at the end of a year when almost everyone involved in the tournament was resigned to there being yet another year without any formal competition.
Carbs 64-17 Sawsa
ON A fine Sunday morning, finalists CARBS took to the rugby pitches at Llanrumney to face Pharmacy; a match billed to be a battle of the titans after Pharmacy beat ENGIN 27 – 0 to reach the final and CARBS finished top of the league.
Carbs 24-7 Sawsa
CARBS CONTINUED their determined assault on the title with an assured win against Sawsa at Blackwier on Wednesday afternoon.
EUROS 3-2 Magnificent XI
FC EUROS and Magnificent XI were thrust into another must-win match as the road to the Lower Cup Final continued. Despite their missing captain Daniel Tennant-Ralph, Euros started as fired up as ever.
Carbs 0-1 Momed
TWO OF IMG’s most successful teams met to play out a grudge match with higher stakes than usual; the IMG semi final. After a hard fought battle and solid performance by both teams, Momed managed to capitalise on a late corner deep into extra time, proving to be the decisive goal.
Biology 23-4 C Plan
AFTER A shaky start from both teams, a fast-paced game led to a Biology win. Despite the weather and the occasional fall on a slippery court, both teams played confidently and skillfully.
